Automotive, Transportation and Logistics Academy
The goal of the Automotive Transportation and Logistics (ATL) Academy is to prepare students for college and career in these industries. High School Inc.'s ATL Academy at Valley High School is FIRST high school in Orange County, CA to become NATEF-accredited. This means ATL students have the opportunity to earn their first entry-level certification through the Automotive Service Excellence Organization.
Over the three years in ATL, students can also earn a Light Maintenance Repair Certification (LMR). The summer following the student’s junior year, students enter internship programs and are placed at local auto dealerships, where they use their knowledge gained through High School Inc., to learn more about the automotive industry.
In addition to these certifications, articulation agreements have been established with local colleges. Articulation agreements ensure a student's successfully completed classes will transfer to a community college or university and be counted in their total college credits.
To further enrich their experience, ATL Academy students have an opportunity to participate in industry-sponsored competitions such as the OCADA competition organized by the Orange County Automotive Dealership Association. They also compete against other teams from local high schools to demonstrate troubleshooting, problem-solving, critical thinking and collaboration skills. Educational field trips include visits to Kia Depot, Tom's Truck Center, Crevier Classic Cars, and many other industry-related businesses including a full scale parts distribution center, and many other industry-related businesses.
